The Power Platform 2024 Release Wave 2 updates are out! These release lists come out twice a year with features that will be coming to the platform. Wave 2 consists of features to be released from October 2024 to March 2025. I will be doing a series of blogs to cover the top features across the Power Platform. In this post, we’ll focus on Power Automate.

Use Generative AI to Achieve a Process in AI flows

In the Power Platform 2024 Wave 2 release, AI flows introduce a groundbreaking approach to process automation. Users can describe process objectives in natural language, and AI develops an automation plan to achieve them. The large language model (LLM) dynamically selects the most appropriate actions, enhancing productivity and agility. This fundamentally different user experience streamlines complex process flows, handles conditions, exceptions, and process loops, and easily incorporates both structured and unstructured data.

Create Power Automate Flows in Excel

In the Power Platform 2024 Wave 2 release, Power Automate enables makers to create efficient workflows directly from Excel. Leveraging the Automate tab, users can quickly build useful flows. Excel offers advanced features for teamwork, simplicity, flexibility, and automation. With Power Automate, tasks and processes can be automated seamlessly from within Excel. The feature enhances the Automate work button by providing ready-made templates, allowing users to easily create workflows by entering parameters. Makers can also manage their flows directly from Excel.

Run a Cloud Flow for More than 30 Days per Invocation

Starting in October, a significant enhancement allows you to run a cloud flow for more than 30 days per invocation. Previously, you had to split your automation logic across multiple flows to achieve longer execution times.

Generate Flow Description Using AI

This feature allows you to generate flow descriptions using AI. Instead of manually reading through flow actions, you can now create a description with the press of a button. Whether in Power Automate for desktop or the portal, Copilot analyzes your flow and generates concise descriptions, streamlining the process and enhancing usability.

Use Copilot to Analyze Automation Activity

Copilot enhances monitoring by allowing users to query automation activity in natural language. Administrators, CoE teams, and makers can ask about past flow runs, success rates, and other related data without custom reports. This feature provides advanced operational visibility, uncovering insights that might otherwise remain hidden.

Scale Faster with Process Mining Thin Client App

Power Automate Process Mining introduces a thin client app that eliminates the need to download process models to your local computer. Instead, you can leverage the Azure Process Intelligence Analytic Service, which offers identical functionality to the full desktop app. This lightweight solution allows faster scaling, supports larger process models, and doesn’t burden your hardware with specific requirements.

Final Thoughts

That’s all for today’s quick review of some of the new features coming in the Power Platform 2024 Release Wave 2. Remember to test these items in a Sandbox before they are rolled out to your production environment! Also, be sure to use the Release Planner to highlight the features you care about the most and monitor their release dates.
