The Alabama Department of Revenue (ALDOR) improved efficiency and accuracy in tax form processing by using a Microsoft Power Platform-based solution. ALDOR faced problems with the manual processing of many tax forms from vendors. They needed a faster, scalable system to meet deadlines and reduce staff workload. After searching, ALDOR chose a low-code solution using Microsoft Power Platform, including tools like Power Automate, Azure, and Encodian Flowr.
HSO, a Microsoft partner known for quick and effective solutions, led the project. They gathered requirements, designed, developed, and deployed the system within two months. The new system centralized tax form reviews and automated barcode scanning and processing. This change cut manual processing times from days to hours, allowing staff to focus on more important tasks.
The solution also grew to include more features, like scanning barcodes for testing and adding business processes such as vendor registration and submission of letters of intent. Vendors now use a portal for test info, documents, and tax season timelines, which improved communication and user satisfaction.
The new low-code solution transformed ALDOR’s tax form processing. It earned ALDOR the 2024 Federal Tax Administration Award for Innovation and Excellence in Tax Administration. With Alabama tax automation, ALDOR improved service delivery, efficiency, and engagement, ensuring a fair and efficient tax system for the state.
