In late January, Microsoft released the 2024 Wave 1 Release notes, which cover new features that are expected to be released between April and September of 2024, and some notable highlights are of interest in the world of Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations.

Microsoft continues to innovate and introduce features meant to transform business through its Dynamics 365 offerings. 2024 will be the year of Copilot and AI, and Microsoft has not forgotten its ERP offerings as it innovates and automates. Here is a list of relevant highlights for Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations (D365FO) within Supply Chain.

Note that this list does not include everything in the Wave 1 Release Notes. If you are interested in reading more Microsoft provides a full list of expected features.

Dynamics 365 Supply Chain

Enable efficient, accurate demand planning with Copilot

Expected preview: April 2024

As Microsoft builds its Copilot portfolio, it only makes sense to introduce it into D365 Supply Chain for executing demand planning! Copilot will work with demand planners to create accurate forecasts along with monitoring and executing on those plans. Demand planners will be able to use natural language to focus on insights, trends, and anomalies across dimensions.

Note: Will only be available in the United States.

Make procure-to-pay purchasing decisions with Copilot help

Expected preview: April 2024

A conversational AI tool to help purchasing teams update existing Purchase orders and quickly see the impact of those updates.

Note: Will only be available in the United States.

Evaluate discrete manufacturing costs using standard cost

Expected preview: September 2024

Perform accurate, parallel inventory accounting using standard costs using either multiple currencies or multiple calculation methods. This is a requirement for many international discrete manufacturers, and it will now be met through interactive Power BI templates. This is part of the Global Inventory Accounting add-in.

Calculate capable-to-promise quantities in real-time

Expected release: September 2024

Calculate CTP for customers that takes existing inventory, production capacity, and transportation times into account when calculating the CTP date. This will also take product variants into consideration and allow visibility into how specific changes (color, size, etc.) could affect these dates as well.

Approve POs and requisitions from mobile device

Expected release: June 2024

All of the expected options for reviewing purchase approvals, all in one mobile app experience! Never miss a purchase approval again because you are not at your desk.

Manage compliance with export control restrictions

Expected release: April 2024

International trade often has a lot of restrictions, and with a native Dataverse solution, users can manage complex rules and policies associated with that international trade. Ensure compliance throughout the confirmation, pick, pack, ship, and invoice process!

Inspect and process returned items more efficiently

Expected release: April 2024

Gone are the days of selecting a disposition code upon receipt in the customer return process. This delay in selecting a disposition code will allow for inspection of the returned item.

Likewise, users can now create return orders via the mobile app’s Return item receiving menu item which will offer blind receiving or return details receiving as options.

Finally, print return labels during the manual packing process and set up a batch job to clean up old return data that has passed its validity period.
